FU HSI'S
TURTLE

Although there are several theories as to the origins of Feng Shui, Fu Hsi's Turtle is convienent as links to the Nine Ki. Fu Hsi is said to have seen a turtle climb from the River Lo, upon the turtle's shell were a series of black and white markings. As a turtle has spiritual conertations in Eastern Philosphy Fu Hsi had taken notice of the turtle, and markings seemed to have a pattern formed both in color and arrangement.

The dots on the shell when added together vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, the sum was always fifteen. Also the even numbers were all black and the odd were white. This pattern, which has since been called the 'magic square' or 'Lo square', is now a key foundation in many of the approaches to Feng Shui and has also been interpreted as the origins of the Nine Ki.
