CREATION AND DESTRUCTION
CYCLES

Water nourishes plants and wood, yet extinguishes fire
Earth creates metals from its mineral deposits, however it absorbs waterFire leaves carbon in its wake, increasing the fertility of soil; however it will melt and deform metal

The cycles of creation and destruction describe the way the Five Elements or Five Transformations of Ch'i interact together. Each element will strengthen the element that follows it clockwise around the compass, e.g. water will support wood. However in the destruction cycle water will extingiush fire.

The cycle can be used in conjunction with an anaylsis of the Ch'i flow within your home, to recitfy weaker Elements or to suppress energy that is too strong. The different approaches to Feng Shui suggest different ways to balance the energy, by placing the supportive element either directly or indirectly within a deficient area or weakening the more powerful. The Form School also tries to affect the flow of Ch'i directly, through mirrors, wind chimes, and by moving objects.
